At Anchored Recovery Community, we know that individuals trapped in the addiction cycle have lost the ability to control their urges as a result of the altered brain function. People have very little hope of recovering from their addiction while the substance in question is still affecting them, which is why the first step of addiction recovery treatment is detoxification, also known as detox.
During detox, clients purge the addictive substance from their body. This can be a difficult process as the body can being to develop a physical dependency on the substance, but in a safe, comfortable environment it is possible to get through detoxification.
Anchored Recovery Community partners with South Shores Recovery and other strategic partners locally and across the nation for detox services.
Methods of Detoxification
Different forms of addiction require different detox procedures. While completely cutting off the substance is an effective treatment for some addictions, in many cases, an individual must be “weaned off” in order to avoid long-term or fatal effects of withdrawal.
DEPENDING ON THE SUBSTANCE THE INDIVIDUAL IS ADDICTED TO, THEIR DETOX CAN TAKE MANY FORMS:
Alcohol:
Withdrawal from alcohol can be lethal if not handled carefully. We utilize an integrative detox program that avoids the more devastating effects of withdrawal such as seizures.
Cocaine:
Cocaine results in a short but powerful high. Cocaine addiction is particularly serious because it is easy for individuals to overdose while attempting to overcome a growing tolerance. After coming down from cocaine, the individual needs to remain sober for several days in order to overcome the physical and mental effects.
Methamphetamine:
Meth addiction can result in strokes, heart attacks, brain damage, and other complications. Detoxing from meth is a delicate process and it is highly advised that you see professional assistance for you or your loved one to help with withdrawal symptoms.
Benzodiazepine:
This is a group of sedative drugs that includes Valium, Xanax, Klonopin and more. Benzodiazepine detoxification should never be done without clinical supervision as withdrawal can result in seizures and life-threatening side effects.
Opiates:
Addiction to painkillers often means that the individual is addicted to an opiate drug like Vicodin or morphine. Once a person has become addicted to pain killers they must seek clinical attention for detoxification. Completely ceasing to take pain killers all at once when addicted is extremely dangerous.
Heroin:
Withdrawal symptoms from heroin can begin in as little as 6 hours after a dosage, making it one of the harder addictions to kick. Detoxification in a monitored environment is key to helping individuals overcome heroin completely and safely.
Methadone :
Methadone is used to help individuals overcome withdrawal from opiates, but if not carefully administered than the individual runs the risk of becoming addicted to the treatment. If you or a loved one are receiving Methadone as an addiction treatment, make sure you are carefully pacing doses. If you are dependent on methadone, it is important that you check in to a clinic for monitored detox.
Suboxone:
This is another drug used as a detox treatment for other substances such as methadone and heroin. It is possible to become addicted to suboxone if taken in excess. The detox process typically takes 2 weeks, and individuals should be carefully monitored during the entire process.
Importance of Clinical Detox
We strongly advise against attempting to detox a victim of substance abuse without clinical assistance. Many detox methods require treatment with additional drugs which, if overused, can result in an additional addiction. Additionally, depression is a common side effect of withdrawal and without a safe, supportive environment, the individual may attempt suicide.
At Anchored Recovery Community, we craft personalized detox programs based on the client’s addiction and medical history. Our compassionate team carefully monitors guests during detox and are ready to act at a moment’s notice if someone begins to feel overwhelmed by their withdrawal symptoms. We provide constant support and encouragement to help guests stay positive.
RESIDENTIAL
We offer extended programs that last up to three months, affording residents a drug-free, serene environment in which to focus on recovery and receive quality, effective treatments. Our goal is to help every resident achieve lasting, long-term sobriety through our residential drug rehab.
Addiction has been attributed to environmental, genetic and developmental factors making it an extremely difficult illness to treat, hence why so many people struggle through multiple relapses until they finally “get it”, if they get it at all. But at South Shores we do not despair, we have seen, as well have been the most hopeless cases recover from a seemingly hopeless state of mind. We do this through a multi-prong attack that sees each guest receive a therapeutic, experiential & communal treatment that helps move the addict from a war zone to a place of healing.
